Van Hollen Says Trump's Illegal Voting Comment "Flies Into The Face Of Facts"

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday morning over Twitter -- in two tweets -- that he will ask for a "major investigation" into voter fraud during the 2016 election.

United States Senator Chris Van Hollen weighed in on Trump's tweets an hour and a half later on WBAL News Now with Bryan Nehman.

"He certainly has not been telling the truth," the Democratic senator said when asked whether the 45th President is a liar. "The reality is we all know what the facts are so it's amazing if he doesn't know them ... You need to be able to trust the president and directing your spokesperson to come out and tell blatantly untrue statements to the American public with respects to the crowd sizes and then to come out and claim there was all this illegal voting just flies into the face of facts."

Van Hollen added that an investigation into voter fraud would be good as it would show what a bankrupt claim it is coming from the 'Leader of the Free World.'

The two also discussed Trump's cabinet nominations, the Keystone Pipeline and the federal government hiring freeze.
