Baltimore Congressional Delegation Announces Nearly $800,000 to Boost University of Maryland Medical System Telehealth Services
U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes and Kweisi Mfume (all D-Md.) today announced $795,146 for the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore to bolster telehealth services.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that telehealth is an essential service,”said the lawmakers. “Expanding telehealth services will benefit everyone from patients to health care workers. We will continue to increase availability of safe and effective health care services across the state.”
These federal dollars come from the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) COVID-19 Telehealth Program, which the delegation members worked to create and fund in the CARES Act and Consolidated Appropriations Act. Funds will be used to purchase tablets and software to support remote patient monitoring for telehealth care.
