Van Hollen, Cardin, Trone Announce More Than $90,000 to Upgrade Town Maintenance Vehicles in Western Maryland

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressman David Trone (all D-Md.) today announced $93,900 in federal funding to purchase new town maintenance trucks in Garrett and Allegany County. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development as a part of the Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program.

“When roads are snowed in, Marylanders can’t travel safely to work, grocery stores, or other places in the community. With this new federal funding, Garrett and Allegany Counties will be able to upgrade maintenance vehicles and help keep roads open through the winter. I’ll keep fighting for more investments like these to ensure Marylanders can safely get where they need to go,” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Appropriations and Environment and Public Works Committees.

“As we prepare for inclement weather this upcoming winter, it is critical that our state and local jurisdictions have the resources they need to maintain and clear roadways, ultimately keeping Marylanders safe,” said Senator Cardin, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee.  “I am committed to working to make sure Maryland has the funding and equipment in responding to future weather emergencies.”

“Keeping Western Marylanders safe is a top priority, and these upgrades to maintenance vehicles will ensure that local governments are ready to answer the call during a weather emergency,” said Congressman Trone. “I’ll continue working with my Maryland colleagues to secure additional funding and resources for our community.”

The Town of Accident in Garrett County was awarded $50,000 to purchase a new dump truck with a plow and spreader.  The Town of Luke will receive $43,900 to replace the existing faulty dump truck, plow and spreader.
