Maryland Congressional Delegation Announces More Than $36 Million in American Rescue Plan Funding to Support Statewide COVID-19 Response Efforts
U.S.
Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch
Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony Brown, Jamie Raskin and
David Trone (all D-Md.) today announced $36,358,851 in American Rescue
Plan funding to support our state’s pandemic response.
This
funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a part
of the Public Health Crisis Response program, launched by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, to expand lab capacity, enhance disease
surveillance programs and step up statewide mitigation efforts.
“Additional
help from the American Rescue Plan continues to assist Maryland’s COVID-19
response and recovery efforts,” the
lawmakers said. “This pandemic has underscored an essential need to improve
our public health resources for Maryland families and this new allocation will
support our state’s ability to respond to COVID-19. Team Maryland will work
tirelessly to secure additional funding to ensure that our state and local
health departments have the tools and resources they need to keep our
communities safe.”
The
lawmakers previously announced
more than $90 million in emergency federal funding to help local health
departments and emergency response personnel in Maryland mitigate the virus.
