Maryland Congressional Delegation Announces More Than $54 Million to Strengthen HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention
Today, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Andy Harris, M.D., Anthony G. Brown, Jamie B. Raskin and David Trone (all Md.) announced $54,235,170 in federal funding for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program to bolster the HIV/AIDS surveillance and prevention programs, reduce health disparities and improve health outcomes across Maryland. The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program has been instrumental in providing a better quality of life for more than 500,000 beneficiaries, whose record-high levels of viral suppression is due to the success of the program.
“For decades, the HIV/AIDS epidemic has taken thousands of Marylanders from us too soon, impacting families and communities,” the lawmakers said. “This new round of annual funding for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program builds on the continued success of the program — particularly during the challenges of the pandemic — and will provide critical support, treatment, and preventative healthcare for at-risk communities. Team Maryland is committed to closing the gaps in our public health infrastructure, ensuring at-risk communities have access to affordable and high-quality preventative health care and treatment services.”
