Van Hollen and Cardin Announce over $11,000 for Hurlock to Purchase New Police Vehicle

Today, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) announced $11,450 in federal funding for the Town of Hurlock to help purchase a new police vehicle. The funding, awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Community Facilities Direct Loans and Grants program, will be provided to the Hurlock Police Department to help cover the cost of replacing an outdated vehicle.

“Providing our local law enforcement officers with the resources they need is crucial to their ability to serve and protect our communities. This funding will help ensure that the Hurlock Police Department is able to respond to emergencies quickly and effectively,” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committees. “I will continue working to support our first responders and provide local law enforcement with the tools they need to keep all Marylanders safe.”

“Ensuring that police departments have adequate tools to carry out their mission is critical to the safety of Maryland communities,” said Senator Cardin. “Continuous federal support is especially important for rural areas, which might otherwise struggle to afford such investments. I will continue to support federal investments in the safety of communities throughout Maryland.”

The USDA’s Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area, and does not include private, commercial, or business undertakings. In addition to these funds, Hurlock received a $12,550 grant through the same program last month.
