Van Hollen Applauds Biden Administration Decision to Support African Union Membership in G-20
Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy released the following statement on President Biden’s impending announcement of support for the African Union’s bid to join the G-20:
“The nations of Africa play a vital role in global affairs and African leaders are steering conversations around innovation, development, conservation, and more. African nations should have more opportunities to present their insights and propose solutions on global challenges that impact them – from climate change to food security to public health. That’s why the United States’ support for giving the African Union a seat at the table at the G-20 is so important. This announcement – in conjunction with the Administration’s U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit – is a clear signal to the nations of Africa that the United States is committed to strengthening our relations and partnerships across the continent and supporting their voices in international policy.”
