Van Hollen Applauds New Slate of Ambassadors

Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement regarding President Biden’s newly announced ambassadors:

“The United States must put our best diplomatic teams on the field as we work to strengthen relationships with our allies and close partners and meet the challenges posed by our adversaries. The ambassadorial nominations made by the President today meet this test. I know that today’s announced nominees are wholly prepared to serve in these crucial roles and will represent our nation with distinction and integrity. Having worked closely with Rahm during our years in the Congress together, I’ve personally witnessed his dedication and determination, and his ability to fully immerse himself in every aspect of the job he is given. I’m confident he will be a true asset to our country in this position. Japan is a key global partner, and it will be important to have someone who has the confidence of the President in that vital position. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Nicholas Burns, and I believe he is an excellent choice as the United States confronts the strategic challenge posed by China at this time. Nick will be able to hit the ground running given his deep experience and accomplished career serving in the Foreign Service and at the National Security Council. Lastly, as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy, I look forward to working with Michael Battle as Ambassador to Tanzania, and I know his experience as Ambassador to the African Union will serve him well in this new role. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I’m committed to working with each of these ambassadors to protect and advance American interests around the globe.”
