Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $112,000 in Funding for Chesapeake City Water Storage and Infrastructure

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Chris Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced $112,485 in federal funding to replace Chesapeake City’s undersized and antiquated water storage tanks and install 1,200 feet of new water main lines. These upgrades will dramatically improve water quality and water pressure for Chesapeake City residents, as well as expand the town’s water storage capacity.

“Infrastructure investments drive economic growth in our communities and improve the health of Maryland families. These funds will enable Chesapeake City to improve water quality for their residents,” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “I will keep fighting to secure future funding for infrastructure projects in Cecil County and across our state.”

“These funds are an investment in Chesapeake City’s families, who deserve to know that the water coming out of their taps is clean, safe and reliable. With much of our water infrastructure aging and decaying, now is the time to be making these investments all across our country and our state,” said Senator Cardin, a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “This grant ensures that Cecil County families will have access to the water they need for years to come.”

The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development Program, as part of a greater Loan and Grant initiative to revitalize water systems nationwide. These funds will be used in combination with two other USDA grants and a $1,027,515 investment from the State of Maryland.
