Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $1.3 Million Grant for St. Mary’s Regional Airport

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced a $1,323,906 Department of Transportation (DOT) grant for St. Mary's County Regional Airport (2W6) in Leonardtown, Md. Authorities will use the funds to construct a 1,200 foot runway extension that will help the airport meet its operational needs.

"Regional and General Aviation airports serve as an important resource to communities in our state and are vital to maintaining a strong economy," said Senator Van Hollen. "I'm committed to making sure Maryland has the funding it needs to keep all of our airports - both large and small - safe and accessible to our residents."

"St. Mary's County Regional Airport is a hub for regional economic activity, serving as a key link between the local community and businesses," said Senator Cardin. "This federal funding enables necessary enhancements to an important Southern Maryland resource. I will continue working to ensure that St. Mary's Regional Airport has what it needs to continue safe, secure and efficient operations."

This DOT grant will be awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program. The program funds various types of airport infrastructure projects, including runways, taxiways, and airport signage, lighting, and markings which helps to create thousands of jobs.
