Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $496,985 for Chesapeake Research Consortium
U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced $469,985 in federal funding for the Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC) in Edgewater, Maryland through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). These funds will assist both the CRC and the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office (NCBO) in maintaining and restoring the health of the Bay by improving scientific research, fostering technical information exchange, and promoting education and stewardship activities.
“The Chesapeake Bay is not only a Maryland treasure, but also a crucial part of our regional and state economy. That’s why I’ve consistently fought to increase funding for Bay restoration efforts through the Farm Bill and the Congressional budget process” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Appropriations and Budget Committees. “The CRC is a crucial partner in this work, and I appreciate everything they do to preserve and protect the health of the Bay. This funding will allow them to continue their good work, and ensure a healthy Bay for generations to come.”
“A thriving Chesapeake Bay has been one of my highest priorities since arriving in Congress. Through strong and effective partnerships, we have made real progress in protecting our state’s greatest resource. I am pleased that these federal funds will continue that trend, including by supporting the CRC’s evidence-based education and research activities for years to come,” said Senator Cardin, a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
Senators Cardin and Van Hollen have been strong supporters of NOAA’s mission and its staff – despite the President’s efforts to cut funding for Agency programs. NOAA is headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland.
