Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $70,000 for Eastern Shore Economic Development

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced $70,000 in federal funding for the Tri-County Council for the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland for their Economic Development District Planning program. The funding, awarded through the Economic Development Administration (EDA), will be used to develop and implement a comprehensive economic development strategy for Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties.

“Having a clear strategy for economic development is crucial to the success of all local economies. This investment will help businesses and entrepreneurs on the Eastern Shore do just that, and ultimately boost Maryland’s economy as a whole,” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committees. “In the Senate, I’m fighting to ensure the EDA has the funding it needs to help local communities succeed.”

“Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the growth engine of our economy. By supporting their vision and facilitating collaboration, this initiative has the potential to make a real difference in Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties for years to come,” said Senator Cardin, ranking member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.

The EDA awards federal funds to spur job growth and economic advancement across the United States. Emphasizing regional collaboration and innovation, the EDA helps local economies adopt new approaches to job growth and adapt to changing economic conditions.
