Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $750,000 ARC Grant for Garrett County
U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) announced a $750,000 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant for Garrett County to construct Phase II of Keyser's Ridge Business Park Access Road. The project is expected to create about 25 full time jobs.
"This grant will create jobs and improve infrastructure in Garrett County,"said Senator Van Hollen."It is a great example of the positive impact that ARC has in Western Maryland - these smart investments are a win-win for the federal government and the local community. The Trump budget would eliminate this program, but as a member of the Appropriations and Budget Committees I will fight that effort."
"With so much of our nation's infrastructure being in dire need of repair, I welcome this investment in Garrett County's roads - an investment that comes with the added benefit of creating well-paying, local jobs," said Senator Cardin. "Let these funds serve as a reminder that ARC does important work for the people of Maryland, and that we must reject all efforts by the Trump administration to eliminate it."
The access road is an essential part of the business park's development plan. The project will include construction of a two-lane asphalt road, a storm water treatment system, pavement markings, and new street lights.
