Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $7.8 Million Grant for BWI Airport
U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced a $7,809,101 U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) grant for the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI) Airport to fund the reconstruction of the Pier B apron pavement that has reached the end of its useful lifespan.
"Baltimore is a world-class city, and BWI Airport is critical to the entire state's tourism and economy," said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Appropriations and Budget Committees. "Millions use the airport every day to stay connected to jobs and family. I am committed to making sure it has the federal resources it needs to meet the best aviation safety standards while keeping Marylanders on the move."
"BWI Airport is the heart of Maryland's aviation system. From keeping Marylanders connected to the country and the world to keeping trade and tourism booming, it's crucial to our state economy, and that's why this federal investment in its safety and success is so important,"said Senator Cardin, Ranking Member on the Senate Environment and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee."I'll keep fighting to ensure that BWI - and all our state's infrastructure needs - have the resources and federal partnerships necessary to thrive."
This DOT grant will be awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program. The program funds various types of airport infrastructure projects, including runways, taxiways, and airport signage, lighting, and markings. It helps to create thousands of jobs across the country.
