Van Hollen, Cardin Announce Nearly $500,000 for Eastern Shore Airport Improvements

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) today announced more than $488,000 in federal funds for two airports on Maryland’s Eastern Shore through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Both grants fund phases of tree obstruction removal projects. Ocean City Municipal Airport (OXB) will receive more than $173,500 to acquire land for that purpose, while Cambridge-Dorchester Regional Airport (CGE) will receive more than $315,000 for environmental mitigation and design.

“These local airports are an important resource that boost our economic growth and connect Maryland businesses to opportunities across the region. These investments will help ensure that our airports can continue to serve the area’s needs,” said Senator Van Hollen, member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committees. “In the Senate, I will keep fighting for funds to upgrade Maryland’s infrastructure and transportation networks.”

“The efficiency and safety of local airports are key to the operation of small businesses and the ability of people outside of major cities to get where they need to go,” said Senator Cardin, ranking member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee. “I’m pleased by this federal investment and will continue to fight for infrastructure investments to benefit communities throughout Maryland.”

These DOT grants will be awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program. The program funds various types of airport infrastructure projects, including runways, taxiways, and airport signage, lighting, and markings. It helps to create thousands of jobs across the country.
