Van Hollen, Cardin Applaud Senate Confirmation of Judge Julie Rubin for U.S. District Court of Maryland
Senators recommended Judge Rubin to President Joe Biden
U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) today lauded the Senate’s bipartisan confirmation of Baltimore City Circuit Judge Julie Rubin to be a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Maryland by a vote of 51 to 46.
“After nearly a decade of service on the state trial court in Baltimore, Judge Julie Rubin is ready to hit the ground running on day one as a federal judge,” the senators said after the confirmation vote. “We know that Judge Rubin will continue her commitment to public service to Marylanders. We are confident that she will uphold the rule of law and provide equal justice to everyone who enters her courtroom.”
The American Bar Association’s (ABA) Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary evaluated the professional qualifications of Judge Rubin, including her integrity, professional competence, and judicial temperament. The Standing Committee gave Judge Rubin a unanimous rating of “Well Qualified,” the highest possible rating.
Judge Rubin was nominated to fill the vacancy created when Judge Ellen Hollander, who was appointed by President Obama in 2010 and took the bench in 2011, announced her intention to take senior status. President Joe Biden nominated Judge Rubin for this vacancy on November 3, 2021, and the Judiciary Committee held her confirmation hearing on December 15, 2021. On January 20, 2022, the committee favorably reported Judge Rubin to the full Senate on a bipartisan vote.
