Van Hollen, Cardin, Harris Announce $250,000 for Water Infrastructure Improvement in Port Deposit

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) and Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (R-Md.) announced $250,000 in federal funds to support water infrastructure upgrades in Port Deposit, Md. The grant, awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants, will be used to construct a storm drainage system within the town of Port Deposit to control flooding around Race Street, Granite Avenue and Rock Run Road.

“Investing in water infrastructure is good for public health and creates local jobs. These projects will protect the safety of the Port Deposit community and minimize flood damage. We will keep working to bring more federal investments to Maryland’s infrastructure for our residents,” said Senator Van Hollen.

“Modernizing our state’s water infrastructure is critical the protecting the health and safety of our citizens and strengthening our local economies. These federal funds will ensure the Town of Port Deposit can better prepare to withstand flooding, mitigate damage to existing infrastructure and safeguard their residentsTeam Maryland will continue to fight for these long-term investments to upgrade and improve water systems throughout the state,” said Senator Cardin.

“As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I support these grants to help our local communities improve water infrastructure and better serve local families and businesses on the Eastern Shore,” said Congressman Harris.
