Van Hollen, Cardin, Hoyer Announce Almost $60,000 to Assist Low-Income Families in Anne Arundel with Home Repair

Today, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Representative Steny Hoyer (all D-Md.) announced $59,784 in federal funding for Rebuilding Together Anne Arundel County (RTAAC) – a nonprofit organization that repairs homes for low-income residents in need. The funding, awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Housing Preservation Grants program, will be used by RTAAC to repair and rehabilitate the homes of low- and very-low-income residents in Anne Arundel County, Md. The funding will allow RTAAC to offer grants and low-interest loans for critical home repair projects designed to improve living conditions and ensure compliance with property and safety standards.

“For families struggling to make ends meet, home repairs can break the bank. These federal funds will help low-income residents of Anne Arundel County make critical home improvements to ensure the safety and security of their homes,” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committees. “In the Senate, I will continue working to expand economic opportunity and housing security across our state.”

“Every Marylander deserves a safe place to call home. This federal investment will improve living conditions for Anne Arundel County residents who would otherwise struggle to pay for important repairs,” said Senator Cardin. “I will continue to advocate for policies to make housing more affordable for all Marylanders.”

“Ensuring every family in our community has access to affordable housing remains a top priority for the Maryland Delegation,” said Congressman Hoyer. “I am pleased that these funds have been awarded to Rebuilding Together Anne Arundel County, which will ensure home repairs can be made and help improve living conditions for families in the County. I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure access to safe and affordable housing for families throughout Maryland.”

The USDA awards Housing Preservation grants to organizations including nonprofits, state and local government entities for the repair or rehabilitation of housing owned or occupied by low- and very-low-income rural citizens.
