Van Hollen-Collins Legislation to Restore DC Funding Passes Senate

Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement regarding the Senate’s passage of legislation he and Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) authored to fix the Republican funding bill provision that caps D.C.’s use of its own local funding:

“The District of Columbia should be able to make its own decisions about its own funding. The House Republicans’ legislation would not only strip the D.C. government of that ability – threatening local schools, emergency response, public safety, and more – but would also do so without saving federal taxpayers a single dollar – meaning this draconian scheme had no purpose except to stick it to the residents of the District. I’m glad the Senate came together on a bipartisan basis to support the District of Columbia and its taxpayers and to put an end to this. We’ll be pressing the House to take up this common-sense legislation quickly.”
