Van Hollen, Lofgren, Johnson Welcome Biden Administration’s Re-Designation of TPS for Cameroon
Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), and Congressman Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) released the following statement on the Biden Administration’s decision to extend and re-designate Cameroon’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This development comes after the lawmakers led over 25 of their colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas last month calling for this action.
“We’re grateful that the Biden Administration has heeded our calls to expand Cameroon’s TPS status and protect those who have sought refuge in our country given the ongoing conflict there. The many Cameroonians already in the U.S. have become part of the fabric of our communities as neighbors, coworkers, and friends, and forcing them to leave would put them in immediate and grave danger. This decision is in line with our American values and an important step to keep these families safe.”
