Van Hollen Statement on Biden Nomination of Martin O’Malley to Lead Social Security Administration
U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement on President Biden’s nomination of former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley to serve as Commissioner of the U.S. Social Security Administration:
“Having worked closely with Governor O’Malley, I know firsthand his commitment to hardworking families and that includes protecting Americans’ Social Security benefits. What’s more, as the former executive of our great state, Governor O’Malley knows the importance of supporting this Maryland-based agency and working closely with the dedicated civil servants who power it – many of whom are Marylanders – in order to deliver vital services to the public. President Biden has made a great choice in former Governor O’Malley for this important role, and I will strongly support his confirmation in the Senate so we can work together to strengthen Social Security and expand benefits for Americans for years to come.”
Today’s announcement of Governor O’Malley’s nomination follows a letter led by Senator Van Hollen with more than a dozen of his colleagues urging President Biden to nominate leaders for the Social Security Administration.
