Van Hollen Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address
Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement regarding President Biden’s State of the Union address:
“Over the past two years, we have worked alongside President Biden to deliver historic progress to the American people – from making once-in-a-lifetime investments in our infrastructure, to finally taking action on the climate crisis, to addressing the rising costs of health care and prescription drugs, to so much more. With these investments and others, we’ve been able to turn our economy around, drive down unemployment, boost American manufacturing, and create thousands of good-paying jobs across the country. Over the last two years, the President has also restored America’s leadership on the global stage and has strengthened our NATO alliance to stand firmly against tyranny, while supporting the people of Ukraine in their fight for democracy. And we have worked together to unite on common ground: to take a first step on improving gun safety, to expand veterans’ healthcare, and to protect marriage rights for all.
“Tonight, the President laid out the progress we’ve made – and what it means for Americans today, tomorrow, and into the future. And he shared how we’ll continue to build on that progress to grow more prosperity and more opportunity for all. I am committed to working alongside him to continue to strengthen our democracy, protect the rights of Americans, create an economy that works for everyone, and build a more perfect union.”
