Van Hollen Statement on the Senate Confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson
Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement on the Senate’s vote to confirm President Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to be an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court:
“With today’s vote, both Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and the United States Senate made history. I was proud to vote to make her ‘Justice Jackson’ and to participate in this historic moment in our democracy. Over the past few weeks – and throughout her career – Judge Jackson has proven how imminently qualified and prepared she is for this role. Like Marylander Thurgood Marshall before her, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a trailblazer, and I know she will uphold the injunction emblazoned on the entrance to the Supreme Court: ‘Equal Justice Under Law.’”
Senator Van Hollen met with Judge Jackson on Monday and invited her to join him in the future at the historic Public School 103 in Baltimore, where Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall went to school. Judge Jackson indicated she would welcome the opportunity to make such a visit. Senator Van Hollen recently secured $1 million in federal funding to support the renovation of the building into Thurgood Marshall Community Center to provide community services in West Baltimore.
