Van Hollen Statement on Trump Administration’s Attack on Maryland Emissions Standards

Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s decision to revoke California’s authority to set its own emissions standards – which 13 other states, including Maryland, follow – and require weaker standards across the board.

“The Trump Administration’s attack on our states’ efforts to clean up our air and combat climate change is deeply disturbing. The threat of climate change is becoming all the more present in our day-to-day lives, and we must immediately take action. I strongly support Maryland’s efforts to fight back against this decision, and I will continue working in the Senate to promote legislation – such as my Cap and Dividend proposal – to tackle climate change head-on.”

Senator Van Hollen has supported and introduced a number of provisions to combat climate change, including his innovative Cap and Dividend legislation and legislation to create a national green bank.
