Van Hollen Statement on Vote Against Republican Continuing Resolution
Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement regarding his vote against the Republicans’ harmful Continuing Resolution:
“Let me be clear: no one wants to shut down the government – but I could not support Republicans’ one-sided bill that would fuel the illegal Musk operation. We should have passed a clean, short-term continuing resolution that allowed for more time to reach a bipartisan agreement on funding legislation for the rest of fiscal year 2025 that invests in the American people’s priorities. Instead Republicans gave a blank check to Donald Trump and Elon Musk to continue their illegal actions to dismantle important public services for working Americans in order to rig the government in favor of the richest like himself. That’s why I offered an amendment to stop the illegal Musk/DOGE operation, but MAGA Republicans widely rejected it – giving their full-throated support to Musk’s harmful and lawless actions. The passage of this terrible bill makes it all the more urgent to continue fighting back forcefully against Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s illegal actions in the Courts and in our communities.”
