Van Hollen, Sullivan Recognize Foreign Service Day, the Importance of America’s Foreign Service Officers

Today, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) released the following statement in recognition of Foreign Service Day:

“Our diplomats are the finest in the world. They work tirelessly on behalf of our country in nearly 300 embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions around the world, often at great personal risk to themselves and their families. They save American lives every day by resolving conflicts before they escalate. They advance our values around the world – of freedom, equality, and liberty. On this day – and every day – we thank these men and women for their service and dedication.”

In May 2017, Senators Van Hollen and Sullivan launched the Senate Foreign Service Caucus to provide a bipartisan forum for members to discuss the challenges facing those who serve in the U.S. Foreign Service around the world and collaborate and develop policy recommendations on how they can best support them and the U.S. diplomatic mission abroad.
